Smart mobility for the tourism industry: Appsfactory creates the DB Ausflug app
Munich, 17 February 2022 – The DB Ausflug (trip) app, a collaboration by Appsfactory and the German rail company DB Regio Nordost, received a fresh new design this year and is a role model in terms of smart mobility.
One highlight of the modern user experience is the “sliding panel” feature, which allows users to navigate their way through interactive maps and offers a completely new visual experience in travel planning.
Visual highlights inspire travel planning
Over 300 tours in north-eastern Germany and Bavaria, an addition in late 2021, offer a wide selection of destinations. With so many destinations, the project team’s key incentive was to provide a clear overview and help customers experience the tours in advance.
“People planning a trip usually want to design tours based around sights and stops that are of particular interest. It is particularly convenient to navigate through a country or city map and to be able to view and assess possible experiences when planning an excursion,” explains Nico Wunderle, Project Manager at Appsfactory.
This is exactly what the “sliding panel” feature, which displays points of interest in a gallery at the bottom of the screen for each tour, allows users to do. They can quickly plan their ideal tour and look forward to the experiences in advance. The app also offers practical access to customer favourites in the form of the associated details pages, featuring further exciting information about the excursion destinations. Customer favourites are also displayed on the map. An intelligent search function is directly accessible from the panel and the tour list. Another particularly planning-friendly function is the option to transfer events and tours directly to the calendar. Offline maps, rail connection information, turn-by-turn navigation, weather forecast and dark mode complete the range of functions.
Plan excursions in advance
The app also supports warnings and important information about COVID-19. These are prominently displayed in a remotely updatable text box on the main screen. Travellers are thus made aware of pandemic regulations and special information and receive the best possible planning security.
Sporty and even more sustainable
In addition to the Bavaria region, the updated version also includes numerous features related to the DB bicycle services. The app is rounded off by Call-a-Bike bicycle rental with real-time display, services, information on parking spaces, repair points and tips on bicycle transport.
Ready for the next trip
Continuous improvements and a constantly expanding list of regions and tours make the DB Ausflug app an ideal companion for experiencing local recreational tourism in north-eastern Germany and Bavaria.
