“Osterie d’Italia” with a vector map based on OpenStreetMaps
APPSfactory has developed a special kind of travel guide on behalf of Gräfe und Unzer. Osterie d’Italia 2014/15 takes app users to the most beautiful guesthouses in Italy. SLOW FOOD e.V. has compiled a list of the best osterias, trattorias and enotecas, bars and pastry shops, which are all completely committed to genuine regional food, original hospitality and multi-sensory pleasure. The app contains short descriptions of all of the osterias as well as texts on regional specialities. Osterie d’Italia is a practical tool, which helps users make decisions about where they are going to visit next. Highly recommendable guesthouses serve delicious local delicacies such as cheese and pasta through to tiramisu and panna cotta to regional wine specialities, a touch of “la dolce vita” included. Personal favourites can be saved using the memo function and retrieved at any time. A new app feature shows the route to the osterias per GPS and a map. In addition to Google Maps, APPSfactory has developed its own vector-based OpenStreetMap and implemented it in the application. Users who have deactivated the roaming function can still use the map navigation without incurring any additional costs. Because APPSfactory converted the OpenStreetMap tiles into vector data, they managed for the first time ever to reduce the entire map of Italy by a factor of 10. The basic version of the application for iOS is free of charge. When users †download the app†they will receive the region of Umbria for free with tips on eating out,†all other regions can be bought separately as an in-app purchase: either for €14.99 as a package or separately – depending on the desired travel region – for no more than €3.59.
