MDR and APPSfactory implement modular app-kit – the app MDR AKTUELL reaches first place in the category News in the app stores right after release
Since last week available for Android and iOS and directly in the top position of the categories ‘News’ in the iTunes App Store and ‘Trends – News and Magazines’ in the Google Play Store: the new app MDR AKTUELL, which provides its customers with the most important news from Central Germany, Germany and the world in a fast and compact way. The mobile app focuses on the multimedia presentation of the most important news and adds images, videos and audio to the articles, which form part of MDR AKTUELL´s innovative storytelling.
A special feature of the new app MDR AKTUELL, which APPSfactory implemented in cooperation with its project partner MCS Sachsen, is the special editing of the complete news content for mobile use. On the one hand, the app´s home screen shows an overview of the most important news of the day in chronological order and substantially supports the user when it comes to selecting and gathering the most relevant daily news within the shortest possible time. On the other hand, detailed information on the individual articles is no longer listed from top to bottom, but sidewards – a special feature for both the reading experience of the news on the smartphone and the most intuitive handling. In other words: For a compact overview of all articles, the users are provided with a vertical scrolling function of the app´s first page. Further content as well as photos, video and audio content can be accessed with a short swipe to the left, which activates the horizontal scrolling function. Dr. Alexander Trommen, APPSfactory´s CEO, commented on the new app: “We are both proud to be part of MDR’s innovative, mobile news edition and enthusiastic about the multimedia orientation of the broadcaster’s digital offering. Based on MDR´s gathered knowledge regarding the use of news apps on the smartphone, the app MDR AKTUELL contributes to a modern user experience significantly.”
The modular app kit enables the reuse of modules that are already programmed, such as the video module for other MDR apps, and thus creates the conditions for a time and cost saving app development for other MDR program brands. The software-architectural approach combines the advantages of native development in terms of performance and functionality with the cost advantages of cross-platform tools such as Unity or Xamarin.
Also good to know: At the end of each article, users will find links to more detailed information, which can be found on the websites of MDR and ARD. Via push notifications, the app provides its users with the most important breaking news.
APPSfactory wishes all users of the new app MDR AKTUELL a lot of fun with the innovative presentation of the news from Central Germany, Germany and the whole world!
