Digitisation of the petroleum industry during the Corona pandemic: contactless payment at the pump instead of at the petrol station checkout

The DKV Mobility App created by Appsfactory enables mobile payment via DKV App & Go as a new key feature of the smart mobility platform. The app offers mobile payment directly at the petrol pump. This involves both the automatic recognition of the petrol station where
the user is currently located, as well as the connection to the partner petrol stations’ backend systems and thus the transmission of the fuel price, which is updated on a daily basis. Smart mobile payment works directly in the app after refuelling. In line with the current Corona
restrictions, it is not necessary to enter the petrol station. This makes the Mobility App the ideal companion for all frequent drivers. It not only saves time, but also helps to comply with hygiene regulations.

Payment directly at the pump

The payment process, designed for an optimum user experience, is performed in just a few simple steps. Upon arrival, the app initially locates the petrol station with the aid of the map material offered by HERE Maps. This is followed by a connection to the backend system in order to display the current fuel price to the cent and to scan the DKV fuel card. After selecting the petrol pump, the refuelling process can be started. The app automatically recognises the completion of the filling process and displays the costs incurred. Finally, the payment
process is confirmed and completed via the payment provider PACE Pay.

Internet of Things at the petrol station

With this unique service, DKV is so far the only vehicle-independent provider to offer a Fill & Go service at the petrol pump. This required extensive payment integrations in the backend system involving over 60,000 petrol stations. For more than a year, an agile team of DKV
and Appsfactory employees created the conditions to successfully realise this IoT project.

Appsfactory wishes all DKV customers a safe journey!
