APPSfactory implements ABOUT BERLIN travel guide for visitBerlin

The new app ABOUT BERLIN gives users new insights into the capital´s history. It leads them to hidden places and presents forgotten sights and unknown heroes. For visitBerlin, APPSfactory implemented the entire process, from consulting and conception, UX / UI design to the front and backend development. The free app in German and English for iOS and Android was released a few days ago.

More than just a list of years – authors with enthusiasm for history and narrative talent

Historians and journalists researched and wrote the content of ABOUT BERLIN, combining historical accuracy with the best storytelling. This way, the users not only experience their personal discoveries, but are also told captivating stories about individual places that particularly characterize Berlin’s image as the city of freedom. Individual tours can be planned with an offline map of Berlin, where sights, monuments and memorials, museums and lost places are marked. The app additionally offers tours including information about both the route length and individual locations. The location feature allows the users to locate specific historical locations in the surrounding area, and includes comprehensive information at a glance. By inserting a radius, specific time periods or types of locations, the search can be adapted to the users’ individual interests.

Making history tangible – with entertaining infotainment

The more than 200 captivating stories provide the users with excellently researched details of seven eras – from 1871 to the future – including unusual visual material and aha experiences in view of previously known and unknown locations. The topics of the texts include oppression and revolution, idealism, innovation and decay, imprisonment and freedom. If you want to provide the user community with tips, you can share your favorites and be inspired at the same time. The individual locations can be added to a watch list and include audio and video features providing a multimedia experience. Since the reader-friendly app requires no previous history knowledge, it can also be used for school classes.

APPSfactory wishes all users of the ABOUT BERLIN app a lot of fun exploring the beautiful capital of Germany!
