APPSfactory develops intelligent freezer management app for Toppits

The new app Toppits Foodsaver, developed in the last few months by APPSfactory for the brand Toppits and on behalf of the household foil manufacturer Cofresco, helps consumers to keep track of what’s going on in the freezer. The app for iOS and Android registers the contents of the freezer, calculates the shelf life of frozen foods and reminds users of the products’ timely consumption. With an average of more than 170 kilograms per person, consumers around the globe throw away approx.1.3 billion tons of food every year. The app Toppits thus makes an important contribution to the rejection of the throwaway society.

User acceptance test for app with strong UX

Besides designing and programming the mobile application, APPSfactory also carried out a user acceptance test. In direct conversations potential users were asked about the challenges they face regarding the management of their freezer and how an app could support them at this point. By observing various test scenarios with the application prototype, a valuable feedback could be generated in order to optimize the user-friendliness in view of the app´s concept and features.

The final app accompanies the entire freezing process in a very practical way: with just one click, users can freeze a new product, categorize it accordingly and number it using a freshness code. This code can also be found on the Toppits freezer bags, which ensures that the frozen products can be located easily and faster than before. Based on a database of about 500 different foods and their recommended freezing time, the app users receive a push notification when a particular freezed product should be defrosted and consumed.

Family account and practical tips on defrosting

A particularly clever feature is the family account, with which all family members can access the app together on the go and thus see the contents of the freezer while shopping. For an optimal food processing, the Toppits food experts also provide valuable tips on freezing, defrosting and preparing the food.

APPSfactory wishes all users of the app Toppits Foodsaver the best insight into the freezer!
