Appsfactory and RTL implement relaunch of new RTL website

RTL has implemented the launch of the new hub as planned with the support of the full-service agency Appsfactory.

RTL debuted both its new brand identity and a new brand architecture in mid-September. A new central digital hub with the address forms the gateway to the company’s digital offerings, and bundles programmes, corporate news and news tailored increasingly to its users’ respective lives and personal requirements. The hub conveniently combines the journalistic content of the previous news site and the entertainment content of TVNOW, soon to be RTL+, on a digital platform and utilises this fully depending on situational context.

As a result, the start screen can be composed flexibly, featuring either streaming content or intelligently placed major news headlines. If special TV content is running on the channel at the time of viewing, this is also displayed in real time on the website. In addition, the homepage positions all other relevant daily news topics in the centre of the screen. It also informs the user of the channel’s latest entertainment offerings. In both cases, users have the option to obtain more detailed information. The so-called “opinion topics”, including subjects such as diversity and equal opportunities, which are positioned on the homepage and reflect RTL’s ethos, form another important category.

As Isabella Thissen, Senior Vice President Editorial Products & Innovation at RTL explains: “Factors including the timing of the go-live in combination with the rebranding and the building of the hub, which required the equal treatment of themes, broadened the scope of this project considerably, and we therefore wanted to rely on a strong partner. We had already had very good experience with Appsfactory as a full-service provider in the context of another project for TVNOW, soon to be RTL+. That’s why we really wanted to have those colleagues on board this time as well.”

Says Chris Goebel, Product Team Lead at Appsfactory: “In our view, the new site is actually a pretty sensational achievement media-wise, because uniting so many different genres of content in a serious and high-quality way requires not only excellent conceptual planning, but also the extensive knowledge and understanding of user expectations. It is, primarily, not so much a question of formats, but of meeting given events and life situations appropriately. Implementing this in record time and ensuring technological, digital and conceptual excellence in the process was exactly the challenge we were looking for and appreciate at Appsfactory. We are very proud that everything worked out according to plan and at the desired qualitative level and thank RTL for its renewed trust in us.”
